Far & Wide Collective

Far + Wide Collective is an online marketplace like no other. Founded by Hedvig Alexander, Far + Wide connects some of the world’s most exceptional artisans with buyers across North America. We are a social enterprise dedicated to creating market access for talented artisans in post-conflict and developing economies. Since the beginning, Far + Wide Collective has sought out the very best handcrafted clothing, accessories, home décor and gift items, all sourced according to fair trade principles. What sets Far + Wide apart is that we not only offer unique and beautiful crafts, but we also provide feedback to the communities that produce them. This ongoing communication ensures that each artisan receives vital market results so they can successfully grow their businesses to meet the demands of the modern shopper. We never compromise, seeking out only the highest level of quality and design and, as such, we have developed a large network of international artisans. Our e-commerce experience connects worlds through an innovative business model, community support initiatives and, most importantly, crafts made by hand with heart and soul. She established the Peace Dividend Trust in Afghanistan, an organization stimulating the local economy by encouraging international businesses to support local goods and services. Later she became Managing Director of Turquoise Mountain, a charity promoting education of traditional Afghan art and architecture, and running a major heritage and regeneration program in the Old City of Kabul. During her time in Afghanistan, Hedvig Christine fell in love with the beautiful traditions of art, architecture and design in the region, and believed that there was an opportunity to support local artisans by promoting their exquisite pieces to Western buyers. In 2009, after moving to Canada with her husband Chris, the former Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan, and their daughter, she launched Jali Designs - a new line of contemporary fashion accessories and homewares. Hedvig Christine Alexander is founder of Jali Designs, now re-launched as Far + Wide Collective.
