As we closed our doors for good, I reflect on a decade of memories we shared with each & everyone of you! I couldn’t helped thinking of an incident that happened in 2009 in the early stage of my ownership of the restaurant. We just finished our menus & feeling a bit of anxiety & uncertain as to whether this venture will successfully happen. A woman came in with her two grown up sons, gave them a table, a carafe of water, & our newly printed menus to start. After a few minutes, I went back to the dining room to take their order. The woman said ‘These prices are ridiculously expensive for a small in the hole restaurant like this. Do you realized where you are? You are not even in the center of town! You are not located in the West Village of New York City to charge us with these prices! It was my first encounter with a difficult situation at the restaurant. The sons were trying to stop her & she kept going with her venomous ranting. I grabbed the menus & demanded they leave. She stood up & before leaving, she shouted ‘I cursed this place & your obnoxious attitude that you will not last six months in operation’. Another incident involved a Thai woman who has sold the restaurant to me said to her friends, he will not be in business for long! How can he make it when he is not even Thai! These incidents stayed with me & had to challenge myself to prove them wrong! A decade after, we are closing the business for good in our own terms! People forget that food is a universal language & is not defined by cultural differences & divisiveness! With that in mind, we would like to thank all of you for your support & generosity all these years! We will treasure the memories we shared together and most of all, you have enriched our lives with your friendship. A good friend posted this comment which summarized everything for us, ‘Do you realize how many people you have touched and how much you and your gracious hospitality will be missed?! These last few weeks, you showered us with your heartfelt messages that validated what we stood for all these years ‘To serve you the best comfort food that brightened the spirit of the universal language of food!. Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts!❤️❤️
