With an effortlessly inviting house filled with family and friends on the reg, our clients wanted us to create a special room for their two little girls.  A place of magic and wonder, that is equally calm and soothing when it’s time to wind down for bed. Black and soft whites set the stage for pretty pops of pale pinks and rich tones of grey.  If I was a kid again, this is the room I would dream of having to play in and sleep under the stars…

It’s a loft bed, a fort, a stage, it’s… our favorite Ikea hack!  This was a no brainer as it allowed us to add some really fun details.  Striped linen from a trip to France turn the lower portion into a secret haven piled with pillows and and plush cushions. The blank panels were covered in removable wallpaper, (Phases of the Moon and Unicorns and Rainbows) chosen by the big sister.  The giraffe peeping from the top of the bed, a magnetic panel for decorating when the mood strikes the littles!  Custom appliqué pillows and paper mache animal busts are a fun twist for this playground.

Starlight, starbright, first star I see tonight…Metal starburst pendants juxtaposed against the white washed ceiling create an outline to this cloud like room.  Inspired by safari tents, custom linen roll up shades tacked with leather straps are ready to roll when the sun heats up in the afternoon.  New Zealand sheepskins add a cozy and insanely soft texture you can’t wait to walk on. We scored the perfect throw pillows while searching for fabric at Hollywood at Home.

The slumber parties they will have!  Opposite the loft is a trundle bed to allow the girls their own spaces and accommodate friends and family from near and far.

What’s not to love? Marbled and alpaca pillows, Belgian linens, are the stars of the show.

Toy chests (another Ikea hack) joined together and topped with reclaimed wood double as a surface to set up up and display their favorites.

Down the hall into the vestibule, imagine their surprise when they discover the cutest kid sized animal stools from Takeshi Sawada.

With a growing library of books, we added an alcove in the vestibule to display their favorites and store even more.  A menagerie of animals peek out from behind the shelves stirring up imagination.  Every inch of this room was planned out with extreme love and thought, and we enjoyed every minute of turning our clients’ vision into reality for their daughters.  Wait till you see their bathroom.

XO,
D.L.
